Venice Beach CA was founded by Tobacco Millionaire Abbot Kinney on July 4, 1905. Abbot Kinney is the father of Venice. The original name was Venice of America. The original intent was to build the Venice of America resort town complete with canals, gondolas, amusement piers, Venetian styled hotels.
